Harvesting Vegetables for DAIS Dinners
The Zonta Club of Madison is committed to serving the community by volunteering our time, talents, and support to a variety of organizations and initiatives that help empower or assist women and girls. This is accomplished by individual volunteering, group project volunteering and making in-kind donations of needed items. In the last year, the Club members provided almost 1,500 hours of community service and approximately $5,000 value of donated items.
Some of the typical organizations to which the Club provides service are:
- DAIS - Domestic Abuse Intervention Services
- Literacy Network
- Girl Scouts
- Senior Centers
- Project Respect
- Rape Crisis Center
- Girl's Biz
- The Road Home
- Food Banks of Dane County
- ARC House
In ongoing partnership with DAIS, the Club has had a very successful Dinner Team that makes a monthly homemade dinner for the residents of the shelter. To date, over twenty meals have been provided to about 600 women and their children. Each member of the Team received 26 hours of training on working with abuse survivors and have volunteered over 400 hours.
